Peugeot Telematics Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how we and our technology and analytics suppliers will collect and use the data gathered by the telematics device.

It is important that you are aware that data will be collected and transmitted any time the telematics device is switched on.

Who we are

We are U K Insurance Limited (“we”, ”us” or ”our”) and underwrite your Peugeot insurance policy.

You should also read the Privacy Notice provided with your motor insurance policy documents, as it explains how we will use the information that you provide us and that we collect from you. You can find information on your rights, how to contact us and make a complaint in this notice.

Data captured by the telematics device

Once activated the telematics device will record and analyse telematics data about the driving behaviour of you and anyone who drives your car.

It will capture and send your specific location, direction, current speed, duration of journey and braking and cornering, amongst other factors to our telematics suppliers' server and we will use the information to understand road type, speed and other conditions relating to your journey. This information will be combined to form a driving score based on your driving behaviour. In addition to the above, the telematics device may also collect vehicle and battery health data.

How we use the data collected from the telematics device

We will use the data from the telematics device, for the purpose of assessing individuals' driving behaviour and to provide insurance policies which are reflective of driving behaviour as well as other rating factors.

Your telematics data may be used for the following purposes:

• To help us to understand safe driving behaviours, which we will use to develop underwriting of our motor insurance policies and to inform our development of similar products, services and systems;
• To help to determine or corroborate the circumstances of a claim, loss or theft;
• To help prevent and detect fraud;
• To give you a driving score every three weeks;
• To give you a warning if your driving score for a three week period is below the driving score threshold;
• To inform us that we should cancel your policy if you receive four warnings in a period of insurance;
• To establish whether or not we can offer you the option to keep your car insured with Peugeot Insurance after your policy expires;
• To tailor your premium at renewal;
• To establish whether or not we will allow you to obtain quotes in the future for motor insurance products underwritten by U K Insurance Limited.

When you give us your information, it may be shared within U K Insurance Limited, our suppliers, Peugeot Motor Company PLC (PMC) and PSA Finance UK Limited (PSA).

We will only share personal information outside U K Insurance Limited and our suppliers, PMC and PSA:

• Where you have provided your agreement;
• If we are permitted or required by law to disclose the information, such as to our regulators or if we are issued with a court order.

We may transfer rights and obligations under this agreement. We may share anonymous telematics data received from telematics devices with the general public and other third parties. If we choose to do this, we will not release any information which identifies you.

How long we keep your personal information for

We will collect, process and retain your data in accordance with data protection legislation and our policies on data retention.

How our suppliers use your data and the telematics data

When you give us your information, it will be shared with our Technology Supplier(s) and Analytics Supplier.

The information collected by the telematics device will also be used by our analytics suppliers for research and analytical purposes both during the active period of the telematics device, and after your use of the telematics device has ceased. Any information that our analytics supplier shares with third parties will be made anonymous and will not contain any of your personal information. This will prevent telematics data or results being directly linked to you.

Our technology and analytics suppliers will use your personal data for communications that relate to your Peugeot Telematics participation or instructions of when you need to return the telematics device.

Unless you stop using the telematics device, our analytics supplier will continue to use any ongoing telematics data collected for the purposes below and you will be able to access your driving telematics data for as long the telematics device is active.

• Road and vehicle usage including for road safety issues, real time traffic flow, environmental impacts such as idle time at junctions, journey times, distances and speeds, and the analysis of junctions and the risk they represent;
• Driving behaviour analysis and profiling including determining what constitutes safe and dangerous driving and the typical behaviours of various segments of the UK population;
• Analysis of the causes of, and forces involved in, collisions and other road incidents; and,
• Researching and refining techniques for analysing motor vehicle telematics data.

We and our suppliers can use your personal information in this way because it is in our legitimate interests to provide the services in the most efficient way and understand risks of driving behaviour. We will always ensure that we keep the amount of your personal information that we collect and the extent of the processing to the absolute minimum to achieve this efficiency.

When do we use computers to make decisions about you?

Information recorded from your telematics device will be assessed automatically to generate your driving score. This score will be based upon a review of your specific location, direction and current speed, as well as information to understand road type, speed and other conditions relating to your journey. The driving score will be assessed against our internal models of driver behaviour to generate a driving score. This score can be accessed via your telematics portal.

The driving score will be used within our pricing systems to determine if you should receive a discount or not in relation to your motor policy.

How our suppliers use the vehicle health data collected by the telematics device

Our analytics suppliers will use the telematics data collected to research and refine techniques for analysing motor vehicle data and to analyse the cause of vehicle faults, both while you are using, and after you have stopped using the telematics device. Any information that our analytics supplier shares with third parties will be made anonymous and will not contain any of your personal information. This will prevent telematics data or results being directly linked to you.

How PSA and PMC use the telematics data

We will share the data from the telematics device with PSA and PMC so that they can monitor:

• Which customers receive a warning;
• What driving scores customers receive in the three week period immediately after they receive a warning;
• Which customers receive multiple warnings and are therefore at risk of having their policy cancelled;
• Which customers have had their policy cancelled for receiving four warnings in a period of insurance;
• Which customers have had their policy cancelled for not installing, or tampering with the telematics device;
• Your car’s vehicle and battery health data for research and development purposes and for the development of future support and services which may be offered to you.
